I don’t know about you but, this month seemed to fly by for me. On top of participating in “No Shave November” (which I’m sure you can tell from my video above) I had a lot of exciting things happen this past month! A mystery contest, some updates, and another great post by my wonderful, amazing and smokin’ hot wife! But that’s not all…
This was also a record breaking month for my site traffic, and blog comments! I literally am flabbergasted at how much this months traffic went up! As much as I’d like to take full credit for the growth of the blog (because I’m so full of myself it’s ridiculous)– I really have the community to thank! You guys are the ones sharing my content, and engaging with it. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Now, let’s get down to brass tax… (I’ve always wanted to say that. I have no idea why.)
Top Commenters
David Willard Jr. – For what seems like centuries, this titan-commenter has held the throne for Dustn.tv. Some speculate that he may never be defeated!
Brandon – Being awesome is his second nature. He’s is literally nipping at David’s heals to win the number 1 commenter spot! Can he do it?! I think so…
Valerie Joy Deveza - I’m a blogger, a virtual assistant and a SEO and Social media enthusiast. In my free time, I enjoy reading ebooks and attending webinars. I also occasionally write about the resources I am discovering.
Top Posts
Like I said in the video above, I’m leaving it to you this month to highlight the top blog posts you’ve read. Pick one blog that you’ve read in the month of November that rocked your socks off, and post it in the comments below! The only stipulation is that it cannot be one of my blog posts! (I know, crazy right!)
I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!
This month’s contest
In the video I eluded to this month’s contest. It will be posted this weekend– unless my son decides to be born and I am unable to post it. In that case, I hope you will understand.
As always, thanks for a great month everyone! I can’t wait to hear your favorite posts from last month.
Oh, and one last thing– how was the month of November for you? You can leave a comment by clicking here.

Im learning a ton from you and your blog.
Its great work, the look of it, the feel of it, and the helpful content. Im hoping to get there eventually!
Thanks for the inspiration. Let me know if you have any tips with Standard Theme.
Im such a newbie…
Thanks for the compliments Andrew!
Hope things go well with the birth of your son!
My favorite blog post of the month was over at EverythingPastor- Sex is not the greatest thing in marriage
http://www.everythingpastor.com/2011/11/28/sex-is-not-the-greatest-thing-in-marriage/
Made me think about my marriage and how I could better it.
Hanks for this Joe! I can’t believe I missed this one!
You’re welcome Dustin. It is an eye opener as it is very easy to forget the simple things.
Some GREAT information but one small inaccuracy. The writters wife is obviously not in her 30s yet because a lot changes when women hit their “30s peak”. They do have a period of life where that dry spell does become a natural measure of how “good” things are going and if you are NOT remembering those other things he talked about then you are in trouble. On the flip side, not all men use sex as a measure of how “good” things are going and that is why a couple who is the same age can run into major trouble during that phase of life. However all the rest as I said is spot on and remembering the little stuff will help strengthen the marriage through that time when the bioligcal clocks are in different time zones.
And before the emails start coming…lol…notice the quotes around “30s peak”. I understand that everyone’s experiences are different and I am only speaking from my own, but I do believe God built into woman a natural increased desire in the 30s for a reason as once they hit their 40s childbirth and conception becomes more difficult. Again something my wife and I have had to face head on as 41 year olds…lol.
I just wanted to clear that up as not to offend our newly arriving ladies
Interesting idea David! But I can see that being God’s way to increase the chances of having children.
Exactly…that was my point. That’s why I pointed out that he was a bit off base because it does happen
Because if you are a childless couple in you’re late 30a the frequency of sex will have a larger impact on the woman in most cases than it will the man. Hey, I think we just found another blog topic. Only I think I wl let the women take this one.
Whoops! Looks like I slipped in “But”… I meant to agree with you.
That could be another great topic. Find a guest blogger to do it and you are golden.
LOL…Um…Nooo…We’re not…That was only for dramatic effect. Yeah, that’s it.
I never would have guessed David was 40 either.
You’re funny Joe…and the fact we have never met makes it even funnier…LOL.
Yeah, I know David. But looking at your blog, pictures, and writing. You don’t come across as old as 40(and yes, I know 40 is not really old but I’m sure you understand what I mean).
I understand
I appreciate the compliment
Of course the fact I was posting those earlier replies as I was shopping at Target tends to bring me into the younger group rather than the older group..lol. My wife and I tend to fall in a weird gap age wise. Those 5 to 10 years older want nothing to do with technology and those 5 to 10 years younger can’t live without it. A lot of the people we know who are our age tend to lean towards the older group but I have kind of led us towards the younger group. We love our tech. devices
The month of November left me with half-way decent beard! I love your posts. Keep doing what your doing, Deepak!
I tried NSN, but I had to shave. I can’t grow a full beard yet. If I didn’t shave for about 2 weeks, I would look like a billy-goat!
Brandon, I had the same problem. At 2 weeks it may look pretty ragged. But you have to let it keep growing. The beard looks better the longer it stays.
Haha!
I had a full beard until 2002 but after having it for 10 years I shaved it and now it looks terrible when I go too long without shaving. My dad on the other hand can’t grow a beard to save his life. Some guys are just not meant to have facial hair and some guys just look better without it. Not everyone needs to look like Grizzly Adams…lol
David, I don’t know. I think if everyone looked like Grizzly Adams, that would be pretty danged sweet. Men looking like men (-;
Brandon, yeah it’s good for a laugh but I think there is a lesson in growing a beard.
It teaches patience and humility. You must wait and be patient while it grows. You must also be willing to put up with the humiliation of a bad beard.
However, once your beard has grown in, it is a thing of great pride. People admire it, they want to touch it.
Well, when it come to Grizzly Adams I had it covered in the 90′s…LOL. There is a pic of me holding my daughter when she was first born and with full beard and curly hair that was long enough at one time to pony tail I was Grizzly alright. Perhaps more Adams Family than mountain man though…LOL.
I like your take on the patience of growing a beard however I’m not so sure on the everyone touching it aspect
David, that had to have been an epic beard. I have never been to the point of being able to pony tail it. Wish I could.
Though I do remember getting a haircut after having not shaved for quite some time. It was probably close to being able to be pony tailed.
Well, we do a lot of work in the youth group… The kids love my beard. They would ask if they could touch it. Always hilarious hearing them ask it.
Hmmm… Now this conversation has made me think of writing a leadership post regarding beards. Maybe 5 Leadership Lessons Learned From Growing A Beard?
LOL…Now we are talking Epic. My life, My Beard and what it taught me…lol. I can understand the kids facination with beards though. I played one of “Santa’s Helpers” 6 years in a row for our company and the kids just love to check out that long white beard to see if it’s real. Of course at that point it wasn’t…LOL.
David, that is an awesome title for a blog. Do you mind if I use it?
I could see the beard post overtaking all of my other posts. Beards just have an allure about them.
That is true!
The correlation of the exesstential cosmic appearance of the evolutionary manifestation of what you believe to be a “halfway decent beard” is the residual accumulation of your evolution… I completely forgot where I was going with this…
Awesome month! I strive to have a site become successful like yours!
And…we’ll see…but I think I might have a chance at beating the champ this month! haha
We’re really close to beating him last month.. haha!
I welcome the challenge…especially since this month will be a tough one for Dustin to keep up with us due to the arrival of baby Judah. So I see it as not only a challenge for us to dialogue but for Dustin to give us topics to discuss as he is trying to jugle 3am feedings…LOL.
You bet! Haha!
Maybe a newcomer will beat him (-;
LOL…judging by how much my inbox blew up this morning I forsee a very fun month. I have however always said I look forward to the day when I can sit back and watch from the backseat
Of course then why am I commenting outside my normal hours…LOL.
Valerie, it sure sounds like it! Can’t wait.
David, I know. My inbox is full of new notifications from the site. Interesting month.
haha! told yah!
Haha, oh well. It is easy enough to clean it out. Let the month roll on!
LOL…well..I just cleaned up at least 27 notices from my inbox and they are still coming and that was just from today. Add to that each notice is doubled because they come to my Blackberry first and some of those got deleted before they even made it to my home inbox..lol. All that to say I can’t wait to see Dustin’s numbers for this month
Now..if we can just get this Rockstar Interview we were promised
Okay brother…put the baby down and pick up the keyboard..you are rubbing off all his new baby smell and Barbie is going to be mad at you if she doesn’t get to smell at least a little of it.
Haha! Good thing my GMail filters it out for me.
David, I am getting doubles because I have used my blog email address and a personal email address. Two email accounts overflowing with tons of comments!
Valerie, I, too, enjoy the fact that Gmail nests the emails together. It makes it easy to scan over and mass delete!
Oh…commenting outside of the normal hours can make up a lot of ground!
Normal hours? I think Dustin should post an open and closed sign on the comments. Yeah, that would make it interesting.
Closed?? No way…Dustn.tv is a 24/7 place to come and compete…err comment on the latest topic…LOL. Besides, if it closed during the overnight hours I would never get to comment. I am only commenting now because I am catching up on emails before the game start…lol.
Closed during the overnight hours sounds even better. It would help me awake to a cleaner email box. Yeah Dustin, you may want to think about closing comments overnight (-; David won’t mind!
At this point I am thinking Dustin won’t mind…lol. By now he is probably swampped with comments to answer and he still has services to attend in the morning so by Monday he will be swamped…LOL.
Uh oh! Look out David! Brandon is coming for you! Lol
They are ganging up on me this month! But we shall see…the month is young and I am old. How many of them will still be around between Christmas and New Years posting away while their friends are calling for them to come play and the snow. LOL…I think I just depressed myself…
I’ll probably be around! So I can keep you company while I overtake your spot (-;
Oohhhh…Some trash talk thrown in! Well then…you would love to check out this post by Dustin
http://dustn.tv/lose-like-a-winner/
Of course. What fun is competition with some friendly trash talk, right?
Looks like a great post. I had a similar post a couple weeks ago called You Can’t Win Them All – http://www.jmlalonde.com/you-cant-win-them-all/
Or wait… Is that post trash talk in itself? You telling me I’m going down? We will see about that!
Excellent post Joe!! I think everyone here needs to read that, it does fit well with the post Dustin wrote. Very much like sister posts. 2 sides of the coin you might say.
But no…I’m not saying that in trash talk, I welcome anyone beating me…
If they can…LOL
Thank you. I will say it that experience was very humbling.
I just started experimenting with including links to similar posts. I will be adding a link to Dustin’s post into my loser’s post.
And good luck. I’m not sure how long I can keep up this excessive amount of posting.
LOL…well, considering I am well outside my normal posting hours I will have to concur…lol. For now I will be retiring to let the rest of the group catch up. That is until my phone begins to bing again at which point that competitive nature will probably take over..lol. Nah…I think I need to catch up on the sleep I missed last night. I have 15 boys who need my attention at Cliques tonight. On that note, it has been fun. I look forward to a fun month.
bahahahahahahahahahaha!
lol… wow! Joe is gunning for you David!
Shhh Dustin! I’m hoping to fly in under the radar!
Yeah I noticed! I find I am posting at some very unusual hours just to keep up. I mean what is this brightness they call daylight?
He just did a comedy gig in my city.
By the way, did you know that you can make your blog have snow falling from it? WordPress is letting you check the box under general settings that allows it until jan 4th!
I have it on my site right now…it’s pretty cool!
Wouldn’t that slow down your site? Hmm.. anyways let me try it out!
Brandon’s site still loads quickly for me. Have you found a difference on your site?
It doesn’t slow it down at all. It is just a feature…
Since its a WordPress.com site, their servers should be prepared to make sure load time isn’t impacted. I found out about this option when I was experimenting with WordPress.com a couple years ago. It’s pretty cool! Not an option on self-hosted blogs though (unless you find a plugin.)
I’m a bit OC when it comes to adding new plugins on my blog..
Haha.. just imagine how slow our internet here in the Philippines. Argh! I won’t even dare visit heavy loading sites.
True! WordPress.com is good for that!
LOL…I will have to set that on my old blog. Not sure that option will work on the self hosted blogs though.
David, I looked on my self-hosted site and do not see an option for it. I may be missing it but I think you are correct.
Yeah, I guess self-hosted can’t do it. I’m sure you could make it snow with a plugin, but that would slow things down…?
I’m sure there’s a plugin.
Plugins could slow the site down but it might not. If I get the chance, I’ll look and see if I can find something.
Let me know if it works and how you like it. Once I get situated with Standard theme, I may give it a try too.
aw too bad! i’m using a self hosted blog!
Valerie, I believe you can get a plugin for the snow. It is available at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/let-it-snow/
Thanks Joe! I’ll try that out later!
You’re welcome Valerie. Hope it works!
You’re welcome Dustin. Hope it works well for you.
Ah! Let it snow on everyone’s blogs! haha
It’s snowing here today. Got about quarter to half an inch. It’s getting cold!
LOL…we got more unexpected rain here but I would LOVE some snow. Born and raised in SoCal but I LOVE the snow and rain! I really need to move…LOL.
Just turned the snow on, on my old blog…it is pretty cool. Funny thing is because my text field backgrounds are white it disappears until it passes the letters or a picture. Pretty neat though. I like adding the season to my pages, it puts you in that winter spirit
Sweet. Glad to hear it works.
Not enough contrast in colors?
Yeah. The snowflakes would be barely visible– and with the hosting provider that this site is still on, it would slow down the load speed.
really? sad ;( – haven’t tried it on my site
Oh well, worth a shot.
I can see by Brandons comments above that it could be extremely difficult to unseat any of the Top 3 Commentors. Nonetheless, I also enjoy your blog. Thanks for the great content. I especially appreciated your post this month about getting your own domain. I havent acted on it yet, but Ill get there.
As far as other blogger posts this month, I really liked a recent post by The Seeking Pastor titled THE Blog Post ( http://seekingpastor.wordpress.com/2011/11/30/the-blog-post/ ).
My blog did pretty well this month. I seem to be experiencing slow but steady growth. My most active post this month was titled Paterno and Grace: Is There Any Chance They Go Together? Heres the link: http://wp.me/pCPhx-mA
Keep up the great stuff!
Actually it is possible.
Dustin has amassed such a library of content already that anyone wishing to dominate the top commenter spots need only engage regularly on the current posts then dig into the archives and give some feedback on some of the awesome posts that Dustin has already made. Of course nothing beats genuine dialogue
That is true! You can’t feel great about yourself overthrowing the king of comments by just typing “haha!” to every single post!
LOL
haha love the “king of comments” part! yeah! that would definitely be considered spam if you just say “haha” on every single post!
Then how about teehee?
No…that’s just too easy. But LOL might work
It is true! He is the king of comments. But he better enjoy it now because one of us will dethrone him!
haha… if only you knew.
Haha love that! +1
+1 reminds me of Google.
Ousted from my podium finish in commenting
Heh
My favorite thing all month was something Justin Taylor posted, linking to Stand To Reason’s recent articles on hearing God.
http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/2011/11/17/hearing-gods-whisper/
Yeah…what’s up with that? You let a girl in the door? I mean Dustin already has Rina posting for him, now you open the door to the comment podium? Pretty soon Dustin is gonna have Judah on here moderating out sexist comments like these even though everyone knows they are completely in jest
Just keeping the conversation rolling as Dustin is busy with the new babe. Wow! The December month in review is going to be huge!
I can’t wait to read this one! Thanks Loren– and never give up and never surrender!
nguns? I think that saying was from a wipeout episode! haha
Thanks for the mention Dustn! I’m really enjoying my stay here. And yeah! I was 1 comment ahead from Brandon and David before I went to bed. I guess that’s my mistake – going to bed on the last minute! LOL!
Here’s my fav post – Maybe because I want to convince our CEO to leverage social media.
http://www.thesaleslion.com/how-convince-ceo-managment-embrace-social-media-blogging/
LOL…when others are sleeping..I am creeping…wait, that sounds all wrong. If you ask Dustin he will tell you that I tend to comment late at night and I had 2 nights in a row of catching up since I was busy all weekend but I left it all day Wednesday and didn’t check in till after the reset.
Good luck convincing the CEO. If he’s a little older he may be too stuck in the old world to roll with the changes and see what the future holds. I got to sit in on a webinar run by an ad exec who specialized in Google as well as general social media (Facebook) marketing and he broke down which businesses would benefit from advertising on which market and why not every business should be on both.
Wow! That is funny…but it is true! You always beat everyone out of the first commenter the night of!
No..I usually make my comments in the middle of the night so by the time I get to the blog on the last night it has already rolled over to zero so I am not sure who has won. I just keep commenting and I guess no one sneaks in during the day to beat me
Oh wait..did I just give away the secret to beating me? Guess you will have to comment this month to see…LOL.
Haha! Yeah! I guess that would do the trick this month..
Truth be told I am enjoying the conversation
Dustin, just be careful… Most people start to vomit during their first P90X workout. Gotta protect that keyboard.
Haha! Actually, that might just give me the push I need to finally get a MacBook!
LOL..Best to stick with the C40X workout. http://dustn.tv/this-is-c40x/
Oh man… Sounds like a challenge.
Could that be an insurance claim? Easy new MacBook. Hmmm. Maybe you should look into it.
Thanks Valerie! Way to give those guys a run for their money!
LOL! I just noticed that I hit the wrong reply button..
Woo Hoo!!!! The contest is going to be delayed!!!! For those who are confused by this….see the contest paragraph above
Haha, well I guess congrats are in order to Dustin!
Congratz to Dustin!
Haha! Thanks David! And thanks everyone else for the congrats!
Yeah! They’re wasting their money on ads etc. They can’t see that with that unique product that we’re offering.. many people would be interested.
Common who wouldn’t want to see Glasses Free 3D animation right in front of them.
Did someone say FREE?? LOL. What exactly does your company market?
LOL! Yeah! NO 3D GLASSES needed, we do 3d animations and AVP for hotels but we are now venturing on glasses free 3D which is pretty cool coz it’s like everything you see pops out of your screen something like that!:)
Oh…I SEE! That sounds cool! It’s like the next generation of holograms. I saw a little bit of that at Disney. One of the things I hate about 3d movies are the glasses so if you could make movies or anything 3d that doesn’t require the glasses that would be a hit.
that’s exactly what we did!
That sounds exciting Valerie!
Lol no need.. they’ve already made some 3D Screens available that doesn’t need 3D glasses. I think Toshiba is also releasing one.
Well, It really pays off when you’re the first one to see the content done.
Okay…so I wanted to add a blog post to the list of top blogs for the month. While mine is a MAJOR blog NASCAR.com I felt this post in particular has a great lesson in it so I chose to include it since it represents something that would not normally make the pages of Dustn.tv
When you read this, keep in mind that the driver they are speaking of is a very talented winning driver who won the championship in 2004 and could win again. Enjoy:
http://www.nascar.com/news/111205/dcaraviello-kbusch-own-worst-enemy/index.html
Yea… on a second thought, I don’t think it would play well, visually, on my site. :/
What have I started…??? [lol]
Normally, I wouldn’t be caught dead reading anything about NASCAR– unless it was featuring Ricky Bobby. But since this is from you, David, I’ll give it a read!
LOL…well, His brother Kyle does act like he has “Shake n Bake” syndrome, but I did offer this up because it has to do with what happens when you let your frustration about a bad season get to you or when you don’t think about your actions before you react. I felt it had a message that reached out beyond the sport.
Of course the fact I got you to read NASCAR means I can now greet you with “Boogity Boogity Boogity” the next time I see you…LOL.
Argh! 50-61 comments? LOL! You just made me guys realize that boys are really talkative hahaha! Ooops!
If talkative is code for competitive I would agree…lol. But it’s all good, I’m glad to see the comments taking off and I’m sure Dustin is going nuts thinking of new content for us to comment on. I even posted a new blog last night to my own site as a result of all the conversation and I am working on another now hopefully for later this week.
Haha! Cool! I’ll check it out on your site later.
I wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It has been an awesome month getting to know all the new commenters and having fun with commenters new and old. I hope everyone has a safe Christmas celebration and I pray the Lord blesses you with health and prosperity in the coming year.
Dustin…I can not wait to see the December month in review. How you managed to keep it all going is a testament to your faith and skills. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Rina and Judah as well.
God Bless You All
I’m pretty excited! ^_^ his baby is pretty cute by the way!
What about 3D contacts??? Maybe…?
this will be a fun December for all of us! I bet Brandon and David will agree with that! *wink
Depending on your hosting provider, it may or may not slow your site down. Depends on how well the plugin is built also.
I may test this out! Thanks Joe!
Awesome Jon! I’ll be sure to check both of those out!
Hold on… there is no way you guys are 40…
That’s ok Brandon… it took me till the age of 22 to actually get a “full” growth.
Git-r-done!
Good… stay that way Valerie! Haha!
+1
I really love how this is keeping me on my “comment-reply” toes… I feel like I’m in the P90X of comment reply training!.. getting me ready to be the next Michael Hyatt. lol
It has the feel of a NASCAR race for me. The top of the feild is running away with the comment lead and it’s going to come down to a 4 horse race for the Top Commenters spot this month…lol. Perhaps you need to offer up a mid month mistery prize to bring some of these single digit commenters into the mix. Don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying the conversation and all but really I would love to see YOU sweat trying to keep up with a dozen people leaving a handful of comments daily as you juggle diapering and feeding…LOL.
um… that’s sound awesome… I usually don’t like watching things in 3D because the glasses are always off in some way… Glasses-free 3D sounds like the best thing since Retina Displays!
Oh my gosh… brilliant!
Okay…agreed, 3d contacts would be cool, but can you imagine trying to share those as you get on the Star Tours Ride at Disneyland? Ewww! LOL
Remember the old fashion ones that had one eye blue and one red and that’s how it made things appear really close? What if you got them in backwards? Would everything appear far away?
Okay…Yes, I’m with the glasses free 3d…lol.
That’s funny right there…I don’t care who ya are…lol.
