Know Thyself

No, I’m not about to get all King James on you. Chill out Mr. Message Bible with your skinny jeans and hippy scarf.

We have been given one life to live. In this life we spend the first couple decades trying to figure out who the heck we are, awkwardly stumbling through one phase after another attempting to find our purpose and our identity.

Know Thyself

Until we find this purpose and identity, we can never live up to our true potential. So we must take this advice from one of my favorite movies of all time, the Matrix.

Yeah, that’s right, it’s time for a movie analogy with a biblical application! I hope you’re as excited as I am!

“Being the One is like being in love. Nobody can tell you are, you just know it. Through and through…” – the Oracle (the Matrix, 1999)

She continues that quote with some slightly colorful language, so I’ll just let you go watch the movie for yourself and continue on with the topic at hand.

Monday Monologue: May 14, 2012

This weeks Monday Monologue went incredibly well compared to last week’s fiasco. Especially considering I actually had passengers this week! Well, if you consider my wife and son passengers. I was a little concerned that Judah might just decide he’s like to add something to the video, but to my surprise, he stayed silent while daddy recorded. :)

The time seemed to fly by this morning (as quickly as 6 minutes can) and I barely had enough time to talk about the few things that were on my mind this week. Here’s what I covered:

Mothers Day 2012!

Mother’s day is the one day a year where mom’s finally get the credit, respect, and appreciation they deserve. I hope you will take the time today to appreciate your mom (or moms) for all they have done.

Today I decided to do as much as I could to let my wife know how appreciated she was. As a first time mommy, she’s truly an inspiration, and a gift from God. She has shown strength, wisdom, endurance, beauty, gracefulness, and godliness that is truly breath-taking. Judah and I are a couple of really blessed dudes.

Monday Monologue: May 7, 2012

After an onslaught of technical difficulties I finally managed to get this up! It was like technology was determined to stop me this week. But hey, you know what I think about life handing me lemons.

I attempted to record this video early this morning on my commute to work. Unfortunately a recent gadget I purchased seemed to have completely disabled my phones ability to record audio. The video was pointless on my way to work. Then I tried again as I was going home– by the grace of God, the audio was working again! The only problem was, I needed to record the audio through my iPhone headset. No problem.

New Weekly Post: Monday Morning Monologue

A few weeks ago I came up with an idea to do a weekly video post. It would be a free-form video with no particular format or defined subject. Think of it like free-writing only it’s more like free-talking-while-recording-in-my-car. Or something like that.

Some of the bloggers and leaders I highly respect and follow closely do similar types of posts. Their format is more of a run-down of thoughts, projects, or general observations and such. I wanted to be able to share with more of what’s going on in my life and give you a peek into the way I operate and think. I wanted it to be a way for my readers to hear my voice and become more familiar with the way I talk so that when they’re reading my work, they can more easily understand my tone of voice. Heck, maybe it’ll even help you get more of my jokes!

Is Your Creativity Being Stifled?

Have you ever felt creatively stifled? Could there be some external force inhibiting you from living up to your creative potential? Are you in an environment that tries to cage your creative side?

the Creativity Gap

I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Not only that, I’ve experienced it as well. Far too many times have I seen and felt the tragedy of untapped, unappreciated, or undermined creative potential. In most cases it is a person in authority who has concluded that anything that doesn’t fit their mold isn’t any good. They have concluded that their ideas, regardless of where their strength lies, are superior. Therefore, anyone who has something fresh, new, or outside-the-box to offer must adhere to their standard or be dismissed as irrelevant.
